ARCHIVED — September 19Saturday, September 19, 2026
Kansas City Royals @ Pittsburgh Pirates
No play cleared the strict Qualified gates on September 19 (2-point edge, every breaker) —
that standard is unchanged and its record is separate. The Daily Pick is our
always-on strategy: the slate's top-ranked candidate under a lower, precommitted bar
(positive edge at the best price, model and market blend agreeing, no Rule 8 hold), published
every eligible slate and graded on its own public record.
It is at 0 units through its proving window (ends September 8): the staking
review happens on that date, never early. Ranked by score, not raw win probability — a heavy
favorite can be likely to win and still be a bad bet.

Circuit-breaker log (9 checks)
Rule 2 check passed: market line -112 within the night-game juice cap (-180; night -180, day -170, day = first pitch before 17:00 venue-local).
Rule 8 check passed: raw model 57.7% vs de-vigged market 51.3%: 6.3-point divergence within the 12-point cap (blended to 54.5% at MODEL_WEIGHT=0.5).
Edge gate: model edge vs offered price is +1.7 pts (minimum 2). No allocation; a good side at a bad price is a bad bet.
Rule 4 check passed: both starters carry full-season workloads.
Rule 6 flag: away 14-day wOBA 0.284 trails league 0.322 by 0.038 (threshold 0.035). 8% run tax applied to the away run rate.
Weather (totals paper track ONLY): 76°F at first pitch: run environment x1.022. Applied to the paper totals pick; the staked board ignores weather entirely.
✳ Best of Board: the gates left no held plays today, so this is the model's top remaining lean — 0 units, NOT staked, published for transparency. The checks above show exactly which gate it failed.
🎯 Daily Pick (v0.15): the slate's top-ranked eligible candidate (score 0.643) under the always-on strategy's lower, precommitted bar. 0u through the proving window (ends 2026-09-08); separate public ledger, never mixed with the Qualified record.
Analysis
The starters roughly cancel. Bubba Chandler (4.28 ERA, 1.35 WHIP over 147.1 IP) against Noah Cameron (3.84, 1.19) is close to a push on season numbers, which hands the game to the team-level gap below.
The clubs, the park, the count. Pittsburgh Pirates (77-77) score 4.79 and allow 4.62 runs a game; Kansas City Royals (67-87) score 4.21 and allow 4.86. In a neutral park (factor 0.97), 10,000 simulations land on a 3.8–4.7 average score, which makes Pittsburgh Pirates a 57.7% team; blended with the de-vigged market that settles at a published 54.5%, a fair price of -120.
The market price is the point. The consensus line is -112 against our -120 fair, a +1.7-point edge and +3.2% EV per unit at the listed price. Rule 8 checked the disagreement with the de-vigged market: 6.3 points, inside the 12-point cap: a disagreement, not a delusion. Quarter-Kelly would size this at 0.9% of bankroll; the tier framework governs it to 0u. The governor beats the gas pedal.
Breaker sheet: Rule 6 flagged a cold road offense (detection only; no scoring tax is applied yet).
Bottom line: Pittsburgh Pirates at -112 carries a 1.7-point model edge at 0u. If the line steams past our -120 fair before first pitch, the edge is gone; pass without regret. Passing is a position too.
The free pick lands in Discord every morning before first pitch.
Every graded result follows it, win or lose. A members channel for the rest of the board opens once the ledger has a record worth charging for; join now and you will be there when it does. The ledger is the pitch, so go read it before you decide we are worth following.
A winning screenshot proves one thing: the screenshot exists. It doesn't show the
losing tickets, the price that was actually available, or the risk taken. This is our standard —
the one this site is graded against — written out in full: converting odds into real probabilities,
stripping the sportsbook's margin out of a price, measuring expected value and closing-line value,
tracking bankroll exposure and calibration, and recognizing overfitting, survivorship bias, and a
sample too small to mean anything.
It's our book, so we make money if you buy it — say so plainly, the same way we
say it when we lose. Then aim it at us first: read the chapter on auditing a record, come back to
the ledger, and check whether we clear our own bar.
Every game on the September 19 slate simulated 10,000 times, priced against real market lines, then passed through eight risk circuit breakers. What survives gets an allocation. What doesn't, we tell you why. Every game also gets a permanent pick page that completes once it grades.
The board has since been revealed: hash it yourself and compare.
If the two match, nothing was altered once the games were underway. That is the whole guarantee, and you do not have to take our word for any of it.
Published plays: 0u total exposure
The free pick is shown in full. The rest go to premium members before first pitch. Every one of them, winners and losers alike, publishes on the ledger with its full breaker log once graded.
Premium: everything we publish, before it happens.
Baseball. Every play we allocate — side, price, sizing,
model edge and the full circuit-breaker log — in Discord before first pitch.
Football. The whole slate reasoned through from market
prices — every covered game, not a shortlist — plus the one play we would act on, committed
and fingerprinted before kickoff. Football makes no claim to beat the market.
We ran two pre-registered studies and published both failures, and it is staked at zero units.
What you are buying there is the research and the receipts, not a forecast.
$49/month. What arrives depends on what is in season.
Every one of them still publishes on the public ledger after grading, winners
and losers alike, so you can check the record before you pay and keep checking after. If the
ledger is not good enough to justify this, do not buy it.
None {TODAY_ADV}. Nothing cleared the gates. Passing is a position.

Promotion criteria (the policy, verbatim): a market or band graduates from watch to staked only when its paper record reaches n ≥ 100 graded picks AND shows non-negative units at the prices logged AND the calibration for that segment is within 4 points. Promotion = version bump + methodology note. Demotion works the same way in reverse (a staked market that goes 100-pick negative returns to paper — also public).

Showing the September 19 pending picks and the last 25 graded. A meaningful sample is 500–1,000 picks; anything we say about ROI before then is weather, not climate.
Close · CLV is the last captured pre-first-pitch line on our side and how many de-vigged probability points the market moved toward (+) or away from (−) our number after we posted. Beating the close consistently is a faster read on real edge than any month of wins. A — means no captured close for that pick: capture went live July 25, and we never backfill.
The Daily Pick strategy (always-on, separate record)
One pick per eligible slate under a lower, precommitted bar than a Qualified
Play: positive edge at best price, model and market blend agreeing on the side, no Rule 8 hold,
ranked by score. 0 units staked through the proving window (ends September 8, 2026) —
the record below books a flat 0.25u paper basis so the scheduled staking review has evidence to
read. Effective date August 9, 2026; rules change only by version bump. This record never mixes
with the Qualified Plays ledger above.

Splits are recomputed from the full append-only ledger on every build. Weather warning applies double here: a month or a bet type is a small slice of an already-small sample, so treat every cell as weather until the pick count says otherwise.
Think of the engine as a flight simulator for tonight's games. Instead of predicting one outcome, it plays each game 10,000 times and counts what happens. A team that wins 6,110 of 10,000 simulations is a 61.1% team by our model's own reckoning — the starting point, not the published number. Before any bet is priced we blend that estimate toward the market (see below), so the confidence on a card is the simulator checked against the sharpest line in the building, not talking to itself. No gut feelings, no vibes; arithmetic, then a reality check.
What each simulation knows
Team run rates: runs scored and allowed per game for both clubs, live from the MLB Stats API, normalized to the league average and then regressed partway toward it — a hot April overstates a team the way a hot streak overstates a hitter, so we shrink the gap instead of taking it at face value.
Starting pitchers: a stabilized starter rate over the ~5.5 innings a starter actually covers — his ERA blended with his FIP (which strips out defense and luck), then regressed toward league average by innings pitched, so a 20-inning hot streak isn't mistaken for true talent.
Bullpens: the defending team's real relief-corps ERA covers the innings the starter doesn't — not an assumption that every pen is league-average.
Park factors: Coors Field is a hot-air balloon (1.24); T-Mobile Park is a walk-in freezer (0.92). Static season approximations, refreshed manually.
Home-field advantage: an evidence-sized bump (~54% for an even matchup), not the folk-wisdom 60%.
Fat-tailed scoring: runs come in bunches, so scores are drawn from a negative binomial distribution that allows crooked innings and blowouts, not a tidy bell curve.
We anchor to the market, then look for the gap
The closing MLB line is the single sharpest public forecast of a game that exists, so we don't pretend a simulator knows better than every professional bettor combined. Before pricing anything, we blend the model's win probability with the market's own, vig removed — roughly half and half. That pulls the engine's confidence back toward reality, and it's why our published numbers cluster near the coin-flip zone where most baseball games honestly live. The model still gets a vote; it just doesn't get to ignore the room.
The market is on the card
A probability alone isn't a bet; a bet is a probability versus a price. Each game carries the market line and three numbers computed from it: Edge (our blended win probability minus the probability implied by the offered price), EV per unit, and a quarter-Kelly stake suggestion, always capped by the risk-tier framework. The governor beats the gas pedal. Two hard gates follow: the edge gate (no allocation under a 2-point edge; a good side at a bad price is a bad bet) and Rule 8, the Divergence Governor: when our model and the de-vigged market disagree by more than 12 points, we assume the market knows something our inputs don't (lineups, injury news, form), and the play is held for manual review instead of bet harder. A model that never doubts itself is a tout with extra steps.
Then the circuit breakers get a veto
The model proposes; eight risk rules dispose. Games with TBD starters are scratched, limited-workload starters trigger downgrades, capped juice forces run-line pivots, and every check, passed or failed, is printed on every card. That's the product.
What this engine does not do: read this before betting
Market lines are a snapshot, not a live tick-by-tick feed. Lines move, and the price at your book may differ. Confirm the number before you bet it.
Telemetry rules are manual. Statcast velocity/spin trends and rolling road wOBA (Rules 3, 5, 6) aren't automated yet; they're flagged for human review, never silently claimed.
Not modeled on any published play: lineups, rest, umpires, weather. (Weather is being measured on an internal paper track that stakes nothing and touches no published pick — it earns its way in or it doesn't.) Park factors are static season approximations. Blending toward the market is our hedge here — the line already prices the lineup card we don't read.
We lean on the market by design. Because we blend toward the closing-market probability, our picks rarely stray far from it: when the market is wrong in a way our inputs can't see, we're wrong with it too. That's the trade — fewer spectacular calls, and fewer face-plants.
Why publish our limitations next to our picks? Because a pick site that hides its wiring is asking you to bet on a magic trick. Ours is an aquarium; the whole tank is behind glass, down to the per-date random seed (20260919) that makes every day's board reproducible.
The eight circuit breakers
Bankroll rules work like the breaker panel in your house: any single circuit can fail without burning the place down. These run on every pick, every day.
Rule 2: High-Juice Favorite Cap Automated · market lines
No straight moneylines on favorites at −180 or heavier — −170 for day games — evaluated against the actual market price. The play pivots to the −1.5 run line or passes. Laying heavy juice is renting a favorite at luxury prices: the wins are small and the losses are structural.
Mandatory volume freeze on pitchers fresh off the IL or on restricted workloads. Heuristic: a starter far under the expected innings load this deep in the season triggers the freeze and a one-tier confidence downgrade.
Sharp velocity, spin, or efficiency drops over a starter's trailing three outings trigger a downgrade or fade. Requires a Statcast feed, so it is flagged for human review for now.
Visitors whose trailing 14-day wOBA trails the league baseline by .035+ take an 8% tax on their projected scoring, computed from real rolling splits and printed on every card. Why 8% and not the 12% the rule was drafted with? A full-season backtest (1,454 games) showed the untaxed model over-projected those cold road offenses by a third of a run; 8% erased the bias almost exactly, and 12% over-corrected. The tax went live only after that evidence — sized by measurement, not taste.
Rule 7: Late-Line Circuit Breaker Automated
Any game with a TBD starter inside the pre-game window is scratched automatically. No named starter, no position: you don't board a flight with an unnamed pilot.
Rule 8: Divergence Governor Automated
If the model's win probability and the de-vigged market disagree by more than 12 points, the play is held for manual review, with no allocation, no matter how juicy the "edge" looks. A huge gap isn't a gift; it's a warning that the market has priced in something our inputs haven't seen. The best defense against a model's blind spots is respecting the one opponent that never sleeps.
NRFI/early-under governors (rookie launch-angle variance; #2–3 slot ISO vs high-ride fastballs). Open Ledger doesn't publish NRFI positions yet, so these breakers are dormant until that market ships.
Edge Gate & Bankroll Governor Automated
No allocation under a 2-point edge versus the offered price. Sizing is the lesser of the confidence tier (3u / 2u / 1u) and a quarter-Kelly stake, with one-tier downgrades on flags and a hard daily ceiling of 10% of bankroll across all published plays.
